  1. Well you probably won't know but there was a comic strip where the main character was frequently seen eating a sandwich pile high with all kinds of things. It was called, after him, a "Dagwood". your sandwich sounds very much like the Korean equivalent. So, when you are not eating across the street how are the lunch meals?

I was wondering if your height really makes you stand out or not so much. The picture you sent with your two Korean friends, and the people I've seen in the videos, don't seem as short as I would have imagined.

Does most everyone at the school speak some English and what about when you go out? How are the trains and subways? Also I was reading that S. Korea is one of the most populous countries in the world. Do you feel crowded in Seoul? I think you said earlier that the city was very clean. How about pollution? (one of the guys at work was asking).

Things around here are good. The boat is coming along and the dogs are getting frisky now that the weather is getting cooler.

    Well, TTFN

  2. The meals at school are typical elementary school lunch quality, so pretty lame. There is rice, soup, and kimchi everyday. Usually some tofu, a veggi or piece of fruit, and sometimes seaweed. Overall pretty bad, I bring a apple or something with me, and eat the rice and usually 1 other item, meat when it is served.

Koreans are pretty tall. On average I am the tallest around, but not by a foot like I though I would be. The women are shorter but most men have some height to them. There are also many men who are as tall as I am so my height is not that outstanding. But the girls still like my height, even if I AM a foot taller than they are.

Well at school the staff consists of us teachers, the principal and vice principal, 3 secretaries, the lunch lady and about 10 helper teachers. The helper teachers (about 40-50 yr old women) and the lunch lady don't speak and English that I have heard, but the others do. And all the kids do, they have to while in school.
When out it is rare to find people who speak English, however people about my age usually can hold a short conversation in English.
The subway is massive, clean, easy to navigate. There is English writing in the subway for stop names, and at the ticket booths. I have not used a train yet. Seoul is one of the most densely populated cities on earth, 5times more than NYC, at time it shows but in my area I don't feel crowded. The are lots of HUGE apartment buildings that must just hold thousands and thousands of people. It would feel cramped there I am sure. When your at the movies or mall (my next post) people and everywhere and then it can feel uncomfortable for sure.
The city is surprisingly clean, like NEVER garbage on the streets, everyone recycles and composts food. The trash goes in one spot, recyclables in a bag, and food in a special can. I don't notice much or any air pollution really, it is not a smelly city. And the water is safe to drink but has a little bit of a funny smell. Bottled water is cheap enough to just get that.

I am glad things are going well, but slightly jealous of autumn coming. It is still about 2 weeks out for us, and the humidity is getting old real quick. I am also doing well, I had a very fun weekend with many friends.
