In Seoraksan National Park, we were able to summit two different peaks. The first was entirely by foot, Mt. Ulsanbawi. It is about 2,400 feet to the top. It was not too bad of a climb, but over 800 steep steps got real old real quick. This 2nd picture you can see Ulsanbawi, the white mountain peaks, from the path.
* Every picture on my blog are ones I have taken myself with the exception of this one. It was a foggy day and could not capture this myself.
The picture with the Korean flag is the summit of Ulsanbawi, as far up as you can go. Very cool spot and view of the surrounding park.
Chrostophe and I went off the path at this point and did some free climbing near the peak. Really fun area. The picture of my feet is right on the edge of the mountain, several thousand feet above the ground. Not a place if you have a fear of heights.
A day or two later we took the easy route up to the next mountain and rode the cable car. You have to take the cable car, there is no public access otherwise to the top. The cable car takes you about 300feet from the top of Gwongeumseong. It was an old fortress, a look out point. The 4th picture is a view from the lookout point. You can see very far down the river valley.
And finally my stance of domination atop of Gwongeumseong.
Hey Dude,
ReplyDeleteSorry it's been so long since I've commented on your blog. We've had a bad winter with lots of snow, more than enough ice (my driveway looks like a glacier) and equipment breakdowns (the snowblower blew it's belts!). But enough about me.
The landscape is fantastic. I finally had to tell Mom about your feet on the edge. She was getting vertigo every time she checked your blog. What does the rest of S. Korea look like. You've shown us the beaches and the mountains...and Seoul. Seems like they pack a lot of landscape in a little area.
Don't get carried away with your stance of domination...they play with real guns over there!
So how is Song and how are your kids? When do they graduate and will you have another meeting with "The Moms"? Do they (the kids) do a regular school year and get off for the summer like we do or do they (and you) go to school year round?
Take Care and know that we check out your blog daily, even if we don't take the time to comment.
